Monster Island, the Asylum's 2019 mockbuster, was released around the same time as Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The film is about a mysterious, monstrous creature living on an island, which is in some ways the island itself.


The film follows only a few human characters. It keeps its A-listers together on one set in order to shoot their sequences (Monster Island (2019) bad movie review) during lunch. This helps keep costs down. The Asylum might not be as successful because it's a kaiju movie.
